  • F3 Tornado Hits Mena, AR my home town

These past two months have been a blur! On April 9th, 2009 an F3 tornado ripped through my home town.  It devastated many homes and several businesses.  Our house was totaled and we were insured thank goodness!  A tree fell on the main structure, knocking the house off its foundation.  My boys and I were at home at the time.  My parents had just dropped my oldest boy off from a visit at their house.  They stayed with me through the whole storm.  That sound I will never forget...a low churning, growling, roar coming for us.  I cannot compare it to a train, that is too tame.  The house was shaking, the wind was sucking air under the doors, glass was shattering.  My husband was at work (paramedic) and it took him an hour or so to get to us when it would usually only take 4-5 minutes..  We were all in shock for awhile.  The next morning we were all sick to our stomaches looking at the devastation.  Three people lost their lives and 35-45 people were injured to some extent.  Looking around at the damaged homes it's amazing that more people were not hurt or even killed.  Unbelievable!  It has been 2 months since the tornado hit and my family and I had enough money left over from our insurance to buy a new house.  We just moved in this week.  We had been staying at my in-laws.  Our family was very blessed no one was hurt and we salvaged most of our personal belongings. Some pictures got ruined, but not many.

  • Nick is trying to make an early appearance!

I had a regular appointment with my OB Doc Tuesday and my blood pressure was pretty high and my swelling was bad. My Doc said to call the office if my blood pressure got to 140/90 or had been having headaches/ringing in the ears. Tuesday night before the storm rolled in I had a horrible headache that I could not shake. I usually can sleep my headaches off, but not this one. It lasted until late Wednesday morning. The ringing in my ears has been sporadic and hasn't lasted long, but still was there. Wednesday night my blood pressure was 144/84 and around noon today it was 140/88.

I went ahead and called the Doc's office and they wanted to see me. My blood pressure was pretty high even when they had me lay on my left side. My Doc said that I am very much borderline on an induction. He is trying to get me to at least 38 weeks though for baby's sake if possible. Right now I am at 36 weeks 3 days. I've basically been put on bed rest until my next appointment (this coming Tuesday). Josh goes back to work tomorrow and Saturday, so my mom is going to help me out. Thank goodness for family!

I'd rather not be induced, but it's looking like it will come to that again. Nick is wanting to make an early debut!

The Murphy's are a super sized family. In addition to raising four kids of their own, John and Jeanette have adopted a staggering 23 children, all of whom have special needs. Their passion for adopting began in the 70's.

The above was taken from the Discovery Health Channel website (http://health.discovery.com/tv-schedules/special.html?paid=62.15515.116999.0.0).  I watched this show at 2am this morning since I couldn't sleep, and it was worth watching!    It's on again this Saturday afternoon (Discovery Health Channel).  I cried like a baby watching parts of it, but it mainly touched my heart
